How much coffee is enough?

We found an interesting article about coffee from the Weather Channel of all places. The article explores how much coffee is enough in light of various medical conditions or reasons why you should have what amounts. Here are some highlights:

Cancer: For women who spend a lot of time in the sun, they found that those who drank more than 3 cups per day had a lower risk of skin cancer.

Depression: Coffee may reduce risk of depression in women if they drink 4 or more cups per day.

Cardiovascular Health: Caffeine in a cup of coffee greatly improved blood flow in a study. All that’s needed is 1 five-ounce cup per day.

Cognitive Decline: Coffee reduces cognitive decline and dementia. Coffee drinkers are less likely to develop dementia and Alzheimer’s later in life. 3-5 cups per day.

Diabetes: Preventing type 2 diabetes may include drinking more coffee. Coffee drinkers showed a reduced risk of 12%. Even decaf coffee drinkers showed an 11% reduced risk. 2 or more cups per day.

Parkinson’s Disease: In the study, those thow drank at least 3 cups per day were less likely to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This was actually due to the caffeine.

Longevity: Drinking 4 to 5 cups per day showed the greatest impact on longevity.

Stress and sleep deprivation: Relief for this can come from just smelling a cup of coffee!

Alcohol-related liver disease: Drinking coffee may reverse some of the problems caused by drinking alcohol with just a cup or more a day.

Antioxidants: Coffee is the number one dietary source for antioxidants with just 1-2 cups per day.
